Pet CareWhy Spay or Neuter Your Pet?BORN TO BE KILLED!(12,500 per hour)Edited due to space constraints In every pound, yes, every SPCA and Humane Society Shelter, the animals KNOW when death is taking place close by. This is a hard fact of life. The country's thousands of pounds and shelters are forced to kill literally millions of animals each year. They pour in, a never-ceasing, always increasing, inundating flood. Consequently, EVERY DAY pounds and shelters are compelled to kill and kill and kill, in order to make room for the ones that will flood them that day; all the result of thoughtless pet owners. Are you guilty and part of the problem? You say you are not guilty? Read just a few of the many excuses humane societies hear and see if your voice is among them. "You see," says the mother of three children, "our cat had the first litter outdoors, and we were never able to see all of them at one time; they were so wild we couldn't even get near them. But, we found good homes for the rest of them." A "good home" is ANYONE who will take a kitten off her hands. She would probably be disappointed to know that some of the children who were coaxed into taken "free kittens" also had to "get rid of them" when they took them home. Another boy has a sign he made in front of his house. It reads "Puppies For Sale," and he boasts he sells all of them. His mother tells of a "nice man" who bought all six of the last litter and gave her son $2 for them. She would probably be defensive and angry if she were told that the "nice man" was probably a dealer who buys and steals all he can to sell to vivisection laboratories. One woman won't have her cat spayed because she "wants her children to learn about life and see the kittens being born." She thinks it's a nice way to teach her children about sex. A man didn't want to have his bitch spayed because he "didn't want her to get fat and lazy." Still, he is the one who becomes violently angry when those neighbors who let their males "run wild" and so they get into his yard by the dozen and fight over his cat when she is in season. A thousand pet owners have a thousand excuses for letting their pets breed, and so they add thousands -- millions -- of puppies and kittens to the mounting flood of the unloved and unwanted. All of the excuses in the world are not sufficient to make one good reason why the senseless breeding of millions of surplus, unwanted puppies and kittens, isn't brought to a halt. Please have your pet spayed or neutered. If you can't afford to do so, please ask your humane society or vet if they have a free or reduced-cost program for this service. Do you want to be responsible for even a small percentage of the thousands of unwanted pets being born just to die? "The lucky ones die quickly," but most suffer horribly before death comes. |
Preventive Pethood |

Spaying- Is the surgical ovariohysterectomy of female pets- Is the most effective animal birth control - Does not adversely affect pet's disposition and may improve it - Prevents breast cancer and some uterine infections - Should be performed at 4-6 months of age - Information courtesy of Massachusetts SPCA |
